Les Schowe
Les Schowe's engraving carreer started when he built his first 18th century flint lock rifle in 2001. He studied under Jack Brooks who is a Master Gun Builder living in the Denver area.
Les's rifle building interests evolved to carving stocks then to engraving a rifle's metal components. To learn engraving, Les went to Emporia, Kansas, and took his first class at the GRS Training Center. After the GRS class he fell totally in love with engraving and focused on this art.
Les is a full time engraver working in Louisville, Colorado, in the shadow of the Flatirons of Boulder. He has experience in several types of engraving; however, after studying with Diane Scalese at GRS, his work emphasizes Western Bright Cut engraving in Argetntium Sterling Silver based on Diane's style and technique. His creations include the joining of Celtic Art with the Western Bright Cut into unique jewelry pieces.
Prior to taking up engraving, Les was an Electrical Engineer with 33 years in Electronic Design and 20 years designing integrated circuits for the Boulder based disk drive industry. He has a BSEE and an MSEE and has accumulated 9 US Patents over his career.
Les is a member of the
National Rifle Association, the Contemporary Longrifle Association, the Firearms Engravers Guild of America, and the Louisville Art Association.
